Field notes for people building companies

About Founder Fieldwork

Founder Fieldwork is written from inside the company rather than from the outside looking in: what a round actually cost in dilution and time, which growth lever moved the number, what the team stopped doing to make room.

Most startup writing is either a victory lap or a warning. We are after the middle — the ordinary weeks where a decision gets made with incomplete information and someone has to live with it. Our readers are founders and early operators who have to make that decision on Monday.

What we cover

  • Playbooks — how something was actually done, with the trade-offs left in
  • Funding — terms, timing and dilution described in numbers rather than adjectives
  • Growth — the levers that moved a metric, and how long the effect lasted
  • Company Profiles — how a specific business is put together and where it is fragile

How we work

We work from filings, founder accounts and primary documents, and we mark plainly where reporting ends and inference begins. Nothing here is investment advice. Every piece is reviewed by a human editor before it publishes, and corrections are noted on the article itself.
