Deel EOR Vendor Check: 2026 Payroll Map
A founder checklist for testing EOR and contractor platforms on coverage, legal employer status, pricing, payment rails, and stablecoin treasury risk.

Coverage is the first failure point
You are deciding whether your first non-U.S. hire goes through an employer-of-record (EOR) or a contractor platform. Beginning in January 2026, Deel allowed customers to fund global payroll from a stablecoin treasury without foreign-exchange conversion, with settlement in minutes rather than days.
Coverage comes first; the treasury option is a later question. Deel's payroll platform covers 150+ countries, serves more than 40,000 customers, and has processed more than $20 billion in global payroll. That number helps only if your target country, currency, and local rail are already in the platform.
Deel's EOR product lets clients hire full-time workers by serving as the legal employer, so clients do not need to establish local entities. Its contractor product supports cross-border contractor payments in more than 120 currencies. Its payroll product handles foreign exchange, local payment rails, and multi-currency payouts, with optional crypto payouts where supported.
The legal employer line is where risk hides
An EOR can look like a shortcut, but the shortcut has a price. The vendor becomes the employer of record, which means it carries local employment obligations while you keep the worker on your org chart.
Deel's EOR plan includes full local employment, payroll and benefits, in-country compliance, and HRIS in 150+ countries. Contractor management costs $49 per contractor per month, and EOR costs $599 per employee per month. As of May 2026, Deel's published pricing excludes foreign-exchange spreads, salary, employer taxes, and statutory benefits.
Exclusions are the real cost model. A monthly fee can become a much larger line once local payroll, taxes, and benefits are added. Contractors cost less per month, but the compliance risk is different.
Deel Payroll is a single platform for running payroll for employees and contractors, with the option to run payroll in-house or have Deel manage it. In-house or managed payroll is a control decision: how much payroll you run yourself and how much you hand to the vendor.
Stablecoin treasury is the new stress test
If your treasury is already global, stablecoin rails change two things: payroll speed and whether you convert currency before paying someone.
Deel launched stablecoin salary payouts and created a crypto division headed by Thierry Edde. At first, stablecoin salary payouts were limited to EOR and global payroll customers whose employees were in the United States or the Eurozone, with further markets to follow. The stablecoin salary payout option was free for employees.
Deel's Stablecoin Wallet is live in 80+ countries across Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific, and offers contractors a dollar-backed balance for holding earnings.
Decide whether the speed is worth the added complexity. If your payroll is already in a single currency and your employees are in markets where the wallet is live, the case is easier. If your workers are in countries where the wallet is not live, plan around the current payroll rails instead.
The check is the decision
Use the vendor's payroll offering as the test case: it puts coverage, legal-employer status, pricing, and treasury options in one place. Keep the check short because the failure modes are narrow: legal status, payment rails, price, treasury, and operational risk. Ask these before signing.
- Confirm whether the vendor is the legal employer in the target country.
- Check whether the target country, currency, and local payment rail are supported.
- Request the list of exclusions from the monthly fee, including salary, employer taxes, statutory benefits, and foreign-exchange spreads.
- Get the contractor fee and EOR fee per person per month.
- Verify whether payroll can be funded from a stablecoin treasury without currency conversion.
- Determine whether stablecoin salary payouts are available and what they cost employees.
- Confirm whether the stablecoin wallet is live in the target market and supports a dollar-backed balance.
If a vendor cannot answer the list cleanly, the hire becomes a test of the vendor, not the role. Keep the answers in writing, and re-run the check when you add a country.
